Celebrating 200 Years of the American Lyceum Movement
The Lexington Lyceum Project supports the Lexington Lyceum Advocates (LLA) in their effort to re-open the Ellen Stone Building, which was originally built as a lyceum: a place for adult education and for helping young people engage with their civic responsibilities. The LLA hopes the building will once again become an inclusive space where people can share ideas on many different topics and learn about the history of the region.
In 2026, the American Lyceum Movement turns 200 years old. To help celebrate the anniversary, the Youth STEAM Initiative will project its MLK Jr. Day projection mapping video, first shown in January 2025, onto the side of the Ellen Stone Building on the evening of November 9, 2026 at 8:00 PM. The projection will also be recorded so the celebration can be shared with those who are unable to attend in person.
