At the beginning of Covid-19 pandemic, schools were closed, and elementary school students did not have in person classes. A powerful and user-friendly parent teacher association (PTA) website became very important for parents to engage in student’s education and provide teachers with the best support. The Harrington Elementary School in Lexington had a 11 year old PTA website that did not have sufficient information or functionality to meet the needs of online learning. Our Youth STEAM Initiative and the Harrington PTA found each other through a volunteering interaction; we both realized this would be a great opportunity for us to contribute to a sustainable and resilient recovery from the pandemic. We immediately started drafting our plans: a new responsive website with updated contents, clear layouts, and easy-to-follow navigation for better parent-teacher-community experiences and collaborations.
We created a website for the
Harrington School PTA
using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Bootstrap. This website is a
vital connection for the parents to keep updated on what’s
happening, especially in the midst of a pandemic. The UI is
user-friendly, and it’s responsive so it looks nice on all
devices.
The website is a new social platform between teachers, parents
and students that promotes equitable, inclusive, and effective
ways of learning to achieve our “grow together” goal. Our
website has benefited thousands of parents involved in the
Harrington community!
